NEW DELHI: Billionaire Mukesh Ambani on Monday became the richest person in the world, surpassing American software czar Bill Gates, Mexican business tycoon Carlos Slim Helu and famous investment guru Warren Buffett, courtesy the bull run in the stock market.
Following a strong share price rally on in his three group company, India's most valued firm Reliance Industries, Reliance Petroleum and Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd, the net worth of Mukesh Ambani rose to $63.2 billion (Rs 2,49,108 crore).
In comparison, the net worth of both Gates and Slim is estimated to be slightly lower at around $62.29 billion each, with Slim leading among the two by a narrow margin.
Warren Buffett, earlier the third richest in the world, also dropped one position with a net worth of about $56 billion.
Ambani's wealth of about Rs 2,49,000 crore includes about Rs 2,10,000 crore from RIL (50.98 per cent stake), Rs 37,500 crore from RPL (37.5 per cent) and Rs 2,100 crore from RIIL (46.23 per cent).
Slim's wealth has been calculated on the basis of his stake in companies like America Movil (30 per cent), Carso Global (82 per cent), Grupo Carso (75 per cent), Inbursa (67 per cent), IDEAL (30 per cent) and Saks Inc (10 per cent).
According to information available with the US and Mexican stock exchanges where these companies are listed, Slim currently holds shares worth a total of $62.2993 billion, with more than half coming from Latin American mobile major America Movil. Slim is closely followed by Gates with a net worth of $62.29 billion currently.
Earlier last month, US business magazine Forbes had named Gates as the richest American with a net worth of $59 billion, calculated as on August 30. The magazine had said that a movement of two dollars in the share price for Microsoft, the world's biggest software maker, could "add or subtract a billion dollars" from his wealth.
Since August-end, Microsoft's share price has risen by $6.58 (based on yesterday's closing on Nasdaq at $35.03), which results into a gain of $3.29 billion in Gates' wealth based on Forbes assumption.
Besides a stake in Microsoft, Gates' wealth also includes the commission and license fees earned by him and gains through his shares in an investment holding company that invests across the market.
Gates is followed by Buffett at the fourth place in the league of the world's richest with a net worth of $55.9 billion through his holding in his investment vehicle Berkshire Hathaway and in other companies. At the end of August, Buffett's wealth stood at $52 billion, as per the Forbes magazine. Berkshire Hathaway's share price has gained by about 7.5 per cent since then.
Earlier on September 26, Ambani had overtaken steel czar Lakshmi Mittal to become the richest Indian in the world.
Mittal currently ranks as the fifth richest in the world with a net worth of $50.9 billion through his 44.79 per cent stake in world's biggest steel maker ArcelorMittal.
While most of Mittal's wealth comes from his steel empire, though he has also spread his wings into businesses like oil and real estate, those of Ambani and Gates are mostly through petrochemicals and software respectively. However, Buffett and Slim are making money from investments across a host of sectors
As I'm typing this the boyfriend is busy playing away a new demo for the game Bladestorm on his Xbox 360. This boy is deep into video game culture, so much so that he's even studying it at school. Yep, SCAD has a video game major, and a real one too, just another reason this school rocks.
As a gamer he spends a good portion of his free time checking out review sites for his current and future Xbox games as well as the PC ones, and (someday) PS3 ones. It's very important to have game review sites around, how else would you know when to expect the next installment of GTA? Or be able to watch super exclusive secret videos of said game. Now, I'm not nearly as big a game nerd as my boyfriend, I do enjoy playing video games and I am rather excited about my most recent purchase (a lovely Onyx Nintendo DS) but I look like a novice compared to him. During the the visit of one site i saw some tipes for vista users, which r as follows:-
1. If you’re annoyed by Internet Explorer’s incessant barking that you’ve lowered your security settings (like, if you’re a non-paranoid expert), launch “gpedit.msc” from either the Run command or Start Search field, navigate through Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer. In the rightmost pane, double-click “Turn off the Security Settings Check feature” and set it to Enabled. 2. If Internet Explorer’s Information Bar also annoys you, you can turn it off (again) in the Group Policy Object Editor (gpedit.msc) through Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer / Security Features. In the rightmost pane, double-click “Internet Explorer Processes” and set it to Disabled. Hallelujah! 3. I’ve just mentioned two tweaks that are buried inside the Group Policy Editor. Jim Allchin pointed out that there’s a Group Policy Settings Reference spreadsheet available. Makes for great weekend reading. 4. Read the Background on Backgrounds if you’re a performance junkie. Don’t set your wallpaper through Internet Explorer ever again! Now that Windows supports JPG wallpapers, there’s absolutely no need (or excuse) for using BMPs anymore. 5. If you insist on keeping UAC (User Account Control) turned on for yourself, you might care to make the elevation prompts a bit less visually jarring. Brandon told me about this one, even though I have UAC turned off. Launch the Local Security Policy manager (secpol.msc), and navigate through Security Settings / Local Policies / Security Options. In the rightmost pane, scroll to the bottom and double-click “User Account Control: Switch to the secure desktop when prompting for elevation.” Disable it, and you can keep UAC turned on without getting turned off by the embarrassingly craptacular Aero Basic theme. 6. Vista can send you emails! The Computer Management tool can still be accessed by right-clicking “Computer” and selecting “Manage” from the menu. However, now you can attach a task to any event. Try navigating through System Tools / Event Viewer / Windows Logs / Application. Now, go ahead and select an event - then look to the rightmost pane and click “Attach Task to This Event.” Name it whatever, describe it however, click through the next step, then in the Action step, you’ll see the “Send an e-mail” option. 7. The Windows Task Manager gives you a lot more troubleshooting information in Vista. Flip to the Processes tab, and in the View menu, click “Select Columns” and add Description, Command Line, and Image Path Name. Moreover, when you right-click a process, you can select either “Go to Service(s)” or “Open File Location.” These are all long overdue options. 8. This one’s interesting. Open up the Date and Time Control Panel applet. Flip to the “Additional Clocks” tab. There, you can configure two more clocks from different time zones. They’ll appear in the tooltip when you hover over the Taskbar clock. No additional software (or silly sidebar widgets) necessary. 9. Applicable in other versions of Windows, I’m going to throw it in here for good measure. Create a shortcut to RegSvr32.exe in your SendTo folder. To get there quickly, enter “shell:sendto&rdquo ; in the Run command dialog or Start Search field. Now, when you wanna register a DLL or OCX file with the system, you can select it/them and “Send To” the RegSvr32 shortcut. 10. I figured I’d round out my first set of Windows Vista tips and tricks with a tiny bit of eye candy. It doesn’t beat Picasa, but the Windows Photo Gallery is better than nothing. Once it’s indexed all your photos, click the icon next to the Search field and turn on the “Table of Contents.” That’s kinda nifty.

The course of the shining Sabarmati river in Gujarat has been intertwined with the march of history for centuries. Sitting on the scorching sands of her banks, Sultan Ahmed Shah had the urge to establish a capital here in the 15th century, which he did and it was named Ahmedabad after him. Before him, Solanki king Karandev I established a base on this river.
But kings and sultans completely pale in greatness when one remembers the indomitable leader who sat by the banks of the Sabarmati and dreamed of world peace and freedom for India.
Even 60 years later, the sun-dappled, spartan Sabarmati Ashram, located in the heart of blazingly hot and bustling Ahmedabad, is a serene, supremely peaceful location where Time has stood still. It has halted in memory of one of India's greatest human beings.
Enter the ashram and you feel that Gandhiji's soul continues to reside here.
The little cottage, with its red-tiled roof and shady courtyard nestling under neem, mimosa and pomegranate trees, looks out onto a clearing. The Sabarmati flows quietly in front of it. The only sounds around here are of twittering birds and chattering squirrels.
The complex is reverently maintained by a group of aging Gandhians who urge you to take off your shoes before entering the leader's modest home.
A walk through the rooms introduces you to the simple life Gandhiji led here. The ashram has hardly any furniture.
Gandhiji helped with the daily chores. He bathed in the Sabarmati and was often engaged in prayers, long walk and correspondence, when he was not working out strategies to help India gain her Independence.
At different times, the ashram was occupied by Mahadev Desai, Gandhiji's secretary, freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Mani Ben (Patel's daughter) and Miss Madelaine Slade (Mira Ben), the British woman who worked with Gandhi.
Sabarmati Ashram was Gandhiji's home from 1917 onwards, when he returned from South Africa. This site was chosen because it was a bit far from the city (at the time) and was located close to a British prison filled with Indian prisoners, whose suffering Gandhiji felt would motivate his struggle.
Gandhiji had reasons for making his home state his base. He said: 'Being a Gujarati, I'll serve my country best through the use of the Gujarati language. As Ahmedabad was the centre of the handloom in early days, the work of spinning wheel (charkha) could be done in a better way, I believed. Being the capital of Gujarat, its wealthy persons will also make a larger contribution, I hoped.'
The ashram is located on a 36 acre plot that was once mostly jungle. Across the Sabarmati river was the city of Ahmedabad and its mills.
The charkha, seen here in the room where he lived, was always by Gandhiji's side. It was his symbol of boycott of foreign-made goods and part of his non-cooperation theme. He was arrested in March 1922 for the success of the non-cooperation movement and sentenced to a six year sentence for sedition at the very prison that adjoined the ashram. He spent two years there before being released for an appendicitis operation.
After his release from jail, he devoted time towards solving India's problems of destitution, untouchability and literacy, while prodding the conflict-ridden Indian National Congress to present a united front.
A few steps away is the little hut where Mira Ben lived. This Britisher devoted her life to Gandhi's principles and named herself after Krishna's famed female devotee, Mirabai.
t was from these very premises that, on March 12, 1930, Gandhiji began, with 78 others, the Salt March to Dandi, in Navasari district on the Arabian Sea to protest the British salt tax. During the 23-day march, thousands joined him.
When he reached Dandi, he raised a clod of salty moist earth and declared: 'With this, I am shaking the foundations of the British Empire
March 1930 was the last time Gandhiji saw Sabarmati Ashram. He had taken a vow to never return to the ashram till India became independent. When India did become independent, Gandhiji was too busy healing the wounds of Hindu-Muslim violence -- the result of Partition -- to return. Then, in January 1948, he was assassinated.

After your second offense, your picture will be posted on the company bulletin board under the "Chronic Offenders Category". Anyone caught smiling in the picture will be sanctioned under the company's mental health policy.
Lunch Break Skinny people get 30 minutes for lunch, as they need to eat more, so that they can look healthy. Normal size people get 15 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to maintain their average figure. Chubby people get 5 minutes for lunch, because that's all the time needed to drink a Slim-Fast.

2.) Empty Recycle Bin – This one is pretty self explanatory, and may even seem like a non-issue. Maybe it is, but there are plenty of people that keep their recycle bins full, all the time. If something is in the recycle bin, you might as well empty it.

4.) Spyware & Adware Removal – Both spyware and adware are real computer killers these days. You can find freeware ones all over that will work great. I like to use two programs simply because sometimes one will find stuff that the other won’t. My favorites are Ad-Aware by Lavasoft and Spybot – Search and Destroy.
5.) Hard Drive Space – Ok, I’ll admit, this one may not be free. If you have deleted everything off of your hard drive that you possibly can and you still have a shortage of space, you are simply going to need a bigger hard drive. If you have less than 500 megabytes still available for storage space, I highly recommend getting a bigger hard drive, as a computer with a filled up hard drive will perform very sluggishly.
